Magical Art Journal Page - Berry71Bleu - July Challenge

Hello Everyone

I was up on the Berry71Bleu blog to share my take on this month's mood board! ;-)

Here is the mood board.

This board really challenged me and I created something that possibly I wouldn't have created, without this little nudge.  I am pleased with it though and very happy with the way it turned out.

Here's the page.

I used a "magical" sentiment, which was the inspiration for the scene I created.

"She wanted to touch dragonflies and stars

Dance with fairies and talk to the Moon"

So below is the moon, the stars and the dragonflies.

I also used bits and pieces from the BoBunny Enchanted Garden collection and used the fairy from this collection.

I actually used loads of BoBunny products and will list them at the end of the post.

Lastly, here is a look at the bottom of the art journal page.

I used a tree die-cut and some distress ink to create the tree silhouette's.

Smile - More Than Words Challenge July 2016

Hello Everyone

I have been wanting to play along with More than Words, since the challenge blog started but due to DT commitments and time I was unable to play along, until now! ;-)

Gladly, I can say that this month I really did make some time and was able to create a page for this challenge.

So here's my take...

I basically turned the sketch upside down.

I used bits and pieces from various October Afternoon collections.

I so loved the earlier October Afternoon collections.

You can see the close-up of the title and little bit of journalling above.

I was telling Joe to smile and as I took the photo Sally (the Sharpei) yawned and it looks as if she is smiling a huge smile too! ;-) It is the perfect photo for this challenge! ;-)

One of the October Afternoon collections had a smiley sticker and I knew that I just had to use it too!

Sally - Scrap Around the World July Challenge/ Prima BAP July

Hello Everyone

Sorry I was missing in action for a few days, but I was really busy creating in the background and really needed to get some projects finished! ;-)

I am happy to say that I can share a layout with you today, which I made for the Scrap Around the World Challenge here and the Prima BAP for this month too.





So here's my take.

This page is of my new puppy Sally and the bright and vibrant colours from the mood board were perfect for this little character! ;-)

In February my dog Blossom passed away and it was so incredibly sad.  So when my friend at work asked me if I wanted a puppy, I initially said "no".  He kept on at me for 2 weeks and eventually I said that I would take a puppy...there were 7.  At just 3 weeks old, I was asked if I would take her early because their Mother had stopped feeding the pups.  Her teats were too sore and they were raw, so she would not let them suckle.  So I took the little ball of fluff and had to feed her every 2 to 3 hours.  It really was so absolutely tiring, but so rewarding. She is now 6 weeks old and is absolutely precious.  A little Shar Pei.

So yes, I am really hoping that she is with our family for a very long time and I hope she walks a thousand miles with us! Blossom was only 15 months old and we had really hoped that she would be with us many years and many miles.

Sally has brought much sunshine, laughter and much energy to the house again.  So these vibrant and happy colours, so perfectly match her little character! ;-)

I used lots of Prima flowers and also used the fun and colourful 'All About Me" collection, along with a few bits and bobs from other Prima collections.

I love the splashy and grungy new Prima stamps and had a lot of fun playing with them.

I even fished out some very old rub ons, which I really do feel are still so cool, and managed to use a few around the page.

Enjoy Every Minute of Everyday - Scrap 365 July Sketch

Hello Everyone

Wow...I can't believe it's the 01st August! The time is just flying!

It's my Dad's birthday today as well, and so wishing my Dad a super Birthday!

I completed a page for the Scrap365 July Sketch.


I turned the sketch on it's side and this is what I came up with.

I used Fancy Pants Collecting Moments collection.  Along with that I also used some Enmarc chippies, some Basic Grey chippies and the Kaisercraft Love card.

I did some watercolour drips over my stickers strips, along with some gesso stencilling and then stamped.

I love this page of my 2 boys! ;-)

Wild Life - Berry71Bleu July Challenge

Hello Everyone

It's my turn up on the Berry71Bleu Blog today, with my take on the July Challenge - Pattern Palooza.

Here's my page.

The journalling tells you about why this page is called Wild Life. "Look what I found at sunset...this little creature that was happy to sit in the fading sunlight and catch the last few rays of warmth.

Recently we went on a family weekend away to a beautiful place called Dullstroom and this picture was taken on the first evening, just as the sun was setting.  The colouring was so amazing and with the winter coloured grass and trees, just made for a beautiful photo. This little town and surroundings is know for it's fly fishing and so that was one of the reasons we went there.

I used my watercolour pencils to colour these Jelly Park digi stamps and also used the watercolour pencils for my background. It may be old school, but still works like a charm! ;-)

I used the gorgeous Autumn Song Collection from BoBunny, patterned papers, chipboards and bits.

This is still one of my favourite collections. The sparkles used, are Molossi.

6 - Once Upon a Sketch July Challenge

Hello Everyone

I am on a week's leave and enjoying lots of time with my son, as well as scrapping up a storm!  It is so nice not to have to rush anywhere or be in a hurry for anything!!! ;-)

So I completed a page for the July Once Upon a Sketch Challenge, which is this.

Journalling Theme: "Numbers.." 

 Pick a number and center your journalling around it. (i.e. FIVE men in my life, TEN quirky traits, THREE long term goals, or 2014--the date I will do ___)

You are free to interpret our theme ANY WAY you like. It is for your inspiration and this theme word DOES NOT need to be part of your title or journalling. But please make sure your layout is based on the sketch below and includes journalling (hidden journalling is fine). Acceptable journalling is MORE than just a sentence, or generic writing such as date/place etc. It needs to be present and at least 3 lines long. Remember, hidden journalling (under a photo/tag or behind your page) is perfectly fine but please DO let us know in your post where your journalling is! 

It is less than 2 weeks to my sons 7th birthday and this page is about his 6th birthday!!!! Terrible really!!!

I really did dive into my scrappy stash for these papers etc.  They are Basic Grey, Life of the Party! LOL..

But I am still happy and pleased with it.  The only thing that is new, is the gorgeous round Blue Fern chipboard which I got through Colourful Memories last week.

I used some stashy rub-ons and also recoloured some of the BG chippies from this collection.

I mixed some white and green embossing powders for the circle chipboard and then added some brown paint.

I decided to also cut out this sweet photo of Joe blowing out his candles, as the background was far too busy and distracting. I am pleased that I did and was happy with the result.

My Life - Scrap Around the world July Challenge

Hello Everyone

Sorry I have been missing in action for a few days, but life has been so hectic.  I have had a house full and also been creating, but unfortunately I will only be able to share it with you later in the week.

But for now, I have finished a page for Scrap Around the World - July Challenge here.
This is the super mood board.



I took the inspiration from the bluey greens in the mood board, as well as the sentiment about life.
Sometimes I forget that life is about exactly that, loving oneself and being joyful and happy! Life gets so hectic, that it just becomes a day in and day out survival, without actually remembering and enjoying the moments. So my page is a reminder to myself, to sometimes just sit down and breathe, enjoy the moment and remember that this is a beautiful life. So thanks to Tusia for this little reminder.

I used the gorgeous Enchanted Garden collection from BoBunny. It's whimsical and beautiful!
There is a gorgeous sentiment on one of the papers that I really wanted to use, but it was just a little too big and it says "Live your own Fairy Tale"...which certainly ties in with my sentiment.

I made my own flowers using a diecut from Olba and love how these turned out,

I really loved this image of the dragonfly and so wanted to use it. It really did catch my eye. Only today I thought I should go and look up the symbolism of a dragonfly and wow....you must have a little read of this.  I know it's a little long, but it was so poignant.

Symbolisms of the Dragonfly

• Maturity and a Depth of character
  The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world symbolizes change and change in the perspective of self realization; and the kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and the understanding of the deeper meaning of life. 
  
  The traditional association of Dragonflies with water also gives rise to this meaning to this amazing insect. The Dragonfly’s scurrying flight across water represents an act of going beyond what’s on the surface and looking into the deeper implications and aspects of life.

• Power and Poise
  The dragonfly’s agile flight and its ability to move in all six directions exude a sense of power and poise - something that comes only with age and maturity. 
  The dragonfly can move at an amazing 45 miles an hour,  hover like a helicopter fly backwards like a hummingbird, fly straight up, down and on either side. What is mind blowing is the fact that it can do this while flapping its wings a mere 30 times a minute while mosquitoes and houseflies need to flap their wings 600 and 1000 times a minute respectively. 
  
  The awe inspiring aspect is how the dragonfly accomplishes its objectives with utmost simplicity, effectiveness and well, if you look at proportions, with 20 times as much power in each of its wing strokes when compared to the other insects.  The best part is that the dragonfly does it with elegance and grace that can be compared to a veteran ballet dancer. If this is not a brazen, lazy, overkill in terms of display of raw power, what is?

• Defeat of Self Created Illusions
  The dragonfly exhibits iridescence both on its wings as well as on its body. Iridescence is the property of an object to show itself in different colors depending on the angle and polarization of light falling on it. 
  
  This property is seen and believed as the end of one’s self created illusions and a clear vision into the realities of life. The magical property of iridescence is also associated with the discovery of one’s own abilities by unmasking the real self and removing the doubts one casts on his/her own sense of identity. This again indirectly means self discovery and removal of inhibitions.

• Focus on living ‘IN’ the moment
  The dragonfly normally lives most of its life as a nymph or an immature. It flies only for a fraction of its life and usually not more than a few months. This adult dragonfly does it all in these few months and leaves nothing to be desired. This style of life symbolizes and exemplifies the virtue of living IN the moment and living life to the fullest. By living in the moment you are aware of who you are, where you are, what you are doing, what you want, what you don’t and make informed choices on a moment-to-moment basis. 
  
  This ability lets you live your life without regrets like the great dragonfly.

• The opening of one’s eyes
  The eyes of the dragonfly are one of the most amazing and awe inspiring sights. Given almost 80% of the insect’s brain power is dedicated to its sight and the fact that it can see in all 360 degrees around it, it symbolizes the uninhibited vision of the mind and the ability to see beyond the limitations of the human self. It also in a manner of speaking symbolizes a man/woman’s rising from materialism to be able to see beyond the mundane into the vastness that is really our Universe, and our own minds.

Quite interesting...isn't it!!!!

Here is a close-up of the other flower cluster, and some of my stamping, which says: The Good Stuff!

Whether you prefer stripes or polka dots, flowers or feathers, or something else entirely, just have fun mixing prints on your project.
